Stretch wrap gauges: which thickness do you need?
Film gauge measures thickness — the higher the number, the thicker and stronger the film. Lighter gauges suit light, uniform loads; heavier gauges handle sharp edges and heavy pallets. Gauge is roughly four times the film’s thickness in microns (80 gauge ≈ 20 microns ≈ 0.8 mil). Here’s how common gauges compare.

Stretch wrap is made from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), a stretchable plastic film engineered to cling to itself and hug a load without adhesive. It’s produced two ways: cast film, made on chill rollers for quiet, easy unwind and excellent clarity; and blown film, made by extruding a bubble for higher puncture resistance and load-holding force. Which one fits depends on your loads and whether you wrap by hand or machine.
